NaNoWriMo kicks off – new excerpt from Redeemer (~3,100 words)

It’s been a while. I’ve been writing, but not posting. Something I should probably do.

I didn’t participate last year, but I decided to do NaNoWiMo this year. As I am still working on “Redeemer”, I felt it would be a good idea to continue with this book as my goal for NaNoWriMo.

In that vein, here is what I wrote today as part of Day 1 on NaNoWriMo. My daily goal is ~2,500 words, today I hit 3,100 (note: this is completely unedited, meaning there will be typos and other problems):

New excerpt from “Redeemer” – WARNING: Major plot spoiler.

I wrestled with the question of whether or not to post this. While it does not give away the fates of any of the characters, it does reveal a major plot point. If you don’t wish to read it, stop now.

Okay?

Still here?

Then here we go…

New excerpt from “Redeemer” – what? Did you think I gave up?

I didn’t, of course. But a new child in the house does cut into writing time something fierce.

But that isn’t why you are reading this. Here is another excerpt from “Redeemer”:

Update and excerpt from “Redeemer”

It has been a long few months since I last updated. The introduction of my son to my family has, understandably, had some dampening effects upon my time and ability to write. As life has resettled into a semblance of normalcy, however, I am picking back up.

I have continued working during this long break. Just not as much as I would like to. For example, I created a blog on the game I have talked about several times, “Star Citizen”, which is designed as a primer for new players. You can view it here: http://bsvcflightschool.wordpress.com. I have also done some new work in the fan fiction set in that universe, “Transitions” – not posted yet, but I have been working. The earlier works are available here: https://ariccatron.wordpress.com/2013/08/29/the-bengtsdotter-stendahl-voyage-corporation-1192-words/.

A teaser from “Redeemer”

“Bes would never do that, Nin Rubati. I know him. He is a teacher and very wise. If you would just talk to him and tell him the truth, he’d understand. And nobody would go against Bes.”

Rubati shook her head.

“He cannot be trusted with this, Emyni. It is too important. The fate of a Goddess is not something you put in the hands of an Asipu, or a Prince, or even a King. Bes has failed to protect you, and the Gage, once already. The Mualan will not give up. They will continue to come after you, to seek you out and steal you, and the Gage, away to use for their own evil purposes. There are dozens of us priestesses, with a retinue of soldiers from Siqma’al’s family, to protect you. A single Asipu, a few Kin, and a young prince are no comparison. We can better protect you and we will not work against your interests. We will use the Gage as it was meant to be used – to free our Goddess, to find your father, and to return the world back to the way it was meant to be. They simply want to separate you from the Gage and take you home.”

“But-”

“Emyni,” Erabbi spoke gently. “We cannot force you to do anything. But we beg you: don’t meet with them, don’t listen to them.”

“The Merchant Council” – excerpt from “Redeemer” (~2,100 words) (WARNING: Some spoilers)

I am now reaching the point in “Redeemer” where updates will contain some spoilers.  If you are a reader of “The Serpent’s Song” series and don’t want any spoilers, don’t read on.  However, I will offer that I do not believe these spoilers to be particularly earth-shaking and I do enjoy feedback from my readers.

You have been warned – read on only if you want to learn some new things.

Some more from “Redeemer” – Khiptri Awakens (~1,000 words)

I like to share my progress, but I want to avoid spoiling anything major.  So here is a segment of a chapter that basically acts as a recap for the character Khiptri. Also, it is worth noting that I’m now at what I consider 10% “complete” – by complete, I mean at least 10% of the book is in a state I would consider publishable.  Not just rough draft, but something I would let others read.

Khiptri Awakens

Khiptri dozed and drifted from one world to another. The red skies eventually faded as he floated in limbo. At some moments it seemed as if he was moving. Other times he was still and swaddled. The pain in his side would grow and fade. He was hot and then cold. Something burned through his veins. He could hear his heartbeat.

More From “Redeemer”, the final book in “The Serpent’s Song” (~900 words):

This is a short (~900 words) selection from “Redeemer”.  I will avoid posting too many spoilers, but I feel an obligation to let my readers see I am progressing and I like to show off sections I particularly enjoy writing.
